FTP: FUN, TRAINING, PATIENCE. NYPD NEW DEPARTMENT VALIES AIM TO HELP ADDRESS OFFICERS POOR RESPONSE TO SNOW BALL FIGHT

“We acknowledge that our officers could have better handled the recent snow ball fight incident in the city and we take responsibility for future improvements. After further investigation we have determined that by following 3 new values of FTP (Fun, Training, and Patience), the incident could have been de-escalated and treated as community engagement rather than a hostile encounter:

F- FUN - the officers could have approached the snowball fight as a fun way to blow off stress outside of tackling brown people.

T - TRAINING: we acknowledge that our officers lack critical snowball training and will be providing this to all new hires and existing officers moving forward

P - Patience: Patience is of utmost importance when dealing with the public and we will further stress de-escalation procedures specifically when encountering snow-ball fights.”
